EMBRACE ME
"Embrace Me" is an art piece exploring the universal longing for connection and intimacy. The project draws inspiration from my personal experience of arriving in London from Singapore four years ago. Navigating a new city alone came with unexpected feelings of isolation and a deep desire for the comfort of a familiar embrace. This work is a visual articulation of that longing—the need for a moment of safety and closeness amidst the chaos of the unfamiliar. It is honoured to be exhibited in St. Margaret's House, an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.
Verdant Embrace
"Verdant Embrace" features two human figures encapsulated in a glass box, their bodies entwined amidst lush greenery and plants. This environment represents the delicate balance of safety and confinement that an embrace can evoke. The act of embracing in this video is a simple yet profound moment, reflecting both the desire to feel secure and the paradoxical feeling of being trapped within that closeness.
Creating this series involved a multidisciplinary approach that blended real-life shooting, set design, and digital graphic design. Building the glass box for "Verdant Embrace" was a particularly engaging challenge, as it needed to evoke a sense of both intimacy and enclosure. The incorporation of greenery and plants symbolized growth, renewal, and the organic nature of human connections. In "Embrace Me," the set design was minimalistic, emphasizing emptiness and space to convey the emotional weight of loneliness.
To deepen the emotional resonance of both videos, I incorporated Chinese characters through graphic design. These words were chosen to express the feelings of solitude, longing, and connection that inspired the works. The juxtaposition of natural elements with digital overlays emphasizes the interplay between tangible experiences and emotional landscapes.
LIGHT STORY
"Light Story" is a video art and photography series co-produced and co-directed with my partner, making it especially close to my heart. As two female queer artists, this work represents the light we’ve found in each other—a clichéd but deeply personal metaphor for hope, connection, and love. The concept of light has always fascinated us, both as a symbol of positivity and as a literal medium to experiment with.
For this project, we played with prisms, water refractions, and the mesmerizing interplay of light waves. One particular shot explores light in an almost X-ray-like form, presenting its wavelengths in a striking, abstract manner. The visuals of the piece echo the symbolic role of light within a relationship, capturing the subtle nuances of love and intimacy through beams, glimmers, and refracted hues.
The story of "Light Story" unfolds between a pair of lovers, exploring how light acts as both a connector and a symbol of their relationship. The interplay of natural and experimental visuals creates a dreamlike narrative, weaving together the emotional and the ethereal.
flower study 花语
Flower Study is about capturing the emotions I feel when I watch flowers move—their gentleness, their strength, and even their violence. There’s something powerful in the way they bloom, sway, and wither, and I wanted to bring that to life in this video. It’s my way of listening to the stories they tell through their movements and sharing that quiet, beautiful dialogue with others.
